Due to high temperature operation of alloys for long periods of time, creep damage may occur in pipes made of these materials. Over the years, there have been several examples where creep damage has lead to industry failures. In most cases, off the shelf Phased Array solutions do not detect creep damage before cracking occurs.
The purpose of this inspection campaign is to detect damage in pipes at a very early stage. It is important for this type of inspection to detect any creep damage before cracking occurs. One of the ways this was achieved was the development of a solution that takes care of surface irregularities. Advanced Matrix Phased Array techniques were used for this development
The inspection is performed manually, with an encoder. TPACquisition software (TPAC) is used for data acquisition and analysis.
